The financier acquired a more modest island - the Little St James - originally in 1998, but later purchased the bigger Great St James in the year 2016 for approximately $22.5 million.
These photos reveal he had created plans to develop the sprawling island by erecting homes, an performance venue, an office beneath the waves and a swimming pool.
